WORCESTERSHIRE'S RAILWAYS FROM 1900 to 1939

RAILCARS
The 1930s were a time of great innovation by the Great Western Railway with the introduction of railcars built and serviced by A.C. Cars Ltd. The first one arrive in 1934 and in July 1934 commenced a business service from Birmingham Snow Hill to Cardiff via the Honeybourne line.  THe distance covered being 117 miles with a journey time of 2 hrs and 25 minutes.
The following year the class started work on services between Worcester, Oxford.
Overhauls were carried out at the A.E.C. works in Southall rather than G.W.R. at Swindon.
