DUDLEY

Dudley wasn't so much a line as an enclave of Worcestershire that was totally enclosed by Staffordshire. Since 1974 Dudley has been part of the West Midlands County.

Dudley was the first major station on the Oxford, Wolverhampton and Worcester Railway from the Wolverhampton end. The station opened on 20th December 1852. It became part of the West Midland Railway on 1st July 1860 and the GWR on 1st August 1863. Dudley was also the terminus of s South Staffordshire Railway line that became part of the LNWR in 1867 and thence the station was in joint ownership. Later the LNWR part was taken over by the LMS.

Dudley station closed to passengers on 6th June 1964 but remained open for freight.

There was a Freightliner terminal here from 1967.
