This photograph, which was taken at Defford, Worcestershire at 18:54 on 25th July 2001 and shows a long-extinct mail train heading towards Birmingham pulled by class 67 diesel locomotive No.67013. Photograph taken by Adrian Booth.
On Thursday 6th June 2002 it was late in the evening when Andrew Smith returned to Birmingham New Street, from a day visit to Barnetby, in time to witness the EWS postal contract in operation. Class 67 diesel locomotive No.67013 was stabled as spare engine. Class 90 electric locomotive No.90227 can just be glimpsed to the left hand side of the photograph.
Wrexham & Shropshire was the operating name of the former Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone Railway Company. The company had a seven-years agreement to operate passenger train services from Wrexham via Shropshire to London on an open-access basis. Services began to great acclaim on 28th April 2008 but lasted less then three years before its parent company closed down the service on 28th January 2011. No.67013, seen here at Bescot on 24th July 2008, was one of four locomotives, the others were Nos. 67010, 67011 and 67012, that were repainted in this distinctive livery. Photograph taken by Andrew Smith.
