Type 4 "Peak" Class 45 Locomotives

45001

British Railways built 193 type 4 locomotives of the "Peak" class starting in 1959. These were eventually classified into classes 44, 45 and 46 in the later renumbering scheme. Locomotives of classes 45 and 46 were common sights in Worcestershire on inter-regional trains through the 1960 and 1970's.

The photograph below shows a typical express (Headcode 1V89) at Defford heading towards the West Country. The photograph was taken on a very sunny 16th April 1974. The locomotive is No.45001.
